Small Winter Blast

The View From My Window This Morning

The View From My Window This Morning

As most of the nation has been gripped in a prepetual winter, some of us here in the Pacific Northwest have been basking in somewhat tropical climates.  The snowfall is way below average.. and our winter has resembled spring.  We did have an arctic blast during the first part of December (09)… It was colder than cold, with no snow.  I was elated to wake up this morning to see my yard dusted with snow.  The downside is, it is March already.. soon will truely be spring and we should not see snow.  I was just telling my family a few days ago, the ol’ saying, “March comes in like a lion, and out like a lamb”.  :-)

Totem Pole?

08.21.09

Our neighbor had a dead pine tree in his yard.  Today, he hired a fellow to cut it down (atleast so we thought)…  If there was such thing as a human monkey, this fellow would fit the definition.  He scaled around this tree better than most of us who walk the ground.  I missed some great shots… It finally dawned on me to take some pictures.

Throughout the day, he trimmed tree limbs and eventually topped it.  He ended up falling the top quarter.   When he came down (for the second time), I thought he was taking another break -  No, he had taken every limb off, and topped the dead tree… then left it.  Our family is taking bets on what will happen next?  Maybe he will make it into a totem pole?  LOL…..

Williams Creek Fire

07.30.09

Williams Creek Fire, the first local forest fire of the season.  When I say local, I mean it is about 20 miles from our home.  It started Tuesday and was spotted when it was about 50 acres.  By Wednesday it was 500 acres and today (Thursday) it was reported to be 1500 acres.  The temperature has been in triple digits all week with a warm wind blowing.  There are a good share of houses close to the fire lines.  The news reported that folks have been given an evacuation notice.  They may have to flee at the any given time.
